Mayor Joe Jenkins will take a moment Friday night to flip a switch and Christmas lights will brighten downtown Provo.
Two crews from Provo's power distribution department string lights for over two weeks in preparation for the magic moment. "We'll be ready," said Dick Craven, line supervisor for Provo Power. The Christmas lights across University Avenue and Center Street in downtown Provo are put up all in one night, Craven said. "They're put up in one shift starting at 2 a.m. when there isn't any traffic. They come down the same way."
Other work on Christmas lights is done during regular hours.
The lighting ceremony will be in front of the Provo Tabernacle at about 5 p.m. after the Christmas Parade.
The annual Christmas Parade "A Homemade Christmas" begins on University Avenue at Provo High School and ends at the Tabernacle.
