A candlelight vigil in Sugarhouse Park marks the 75th anniversary of the death of labor activist and songwriter Joe Hill. About 200 people gathered at Highland High Monday night to remember Hill, who was executed by firing squad Nov. 19, 1915, after being convicted of two murders. After the program, the group walked to Sugarhouse Park, site of the old Utah State Prison where Hill was executed. Some believe Hill was the victim of anti-labor sentiment and was framed by Utah copper bosses who were fearful of any attempt to organize unions.
