Herbert B. Maw, age 97, died November 17, 1990 of natural causes in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Born March 11, 1893 in Ogden, Utah Territory to Ephraim and Emma Brown Maw. Married Florence Buehler on June 22, 1921 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died November 14, 1984. He taught for many years, first at the LDS High School, then at the University of Utah during which time he served as Dean of Men. He was admitted to the Utah State Bar in 1916, and practiced law until 1986. He became active in Utah politics, serving 10 years in the Utah Senate and 8 years as the Eighth Governor of Utah, 1941-1948. His various activities in the LDS Church included serving as a general board member of the Young Men's Mutual Improvement Association and as a board member of the Deseret Sunday School Union.Dad loved life. He really meant what he said in his autobiography, "Life was my friend."

He is survived by two sons and two daughters, H. Warren; Ralph B.; Mrs Benson L. (LaRue) Hathaway; and Mrs J. William (Jeanne) Nibley. 19 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren; one sister: Mrs Edith Neville.

Funeral services Wednesday, November 21st, at 12 noon in the Garden Park Ward Chapel, 1150 East Yale Avenue (1080 South). Friends may call at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, Tuesday evening 6-8 pm, and at the Ward on Wednesday, one hour prior to the services. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery. The family requests contributions be made to your favorite charity in lieu of flowers.
