After watching a 2-0 first-period dwindle away, Salt Lake scored twice in the third period - the Eagles' game-winning goal coming short-handed - to defeat the San Diego Gulls 4-2 in IHL action Sunday night.

With defenseman Kevin Grant picking up a match penalty and game misconduct penalty midway in the final period, Andrew McKim scored the game-winning goal at the 14:03 mark, breaking a 2-2 tie.Martin Simard was awarded an empty-net goal at 19:59 for the fourth Salt Lake goal. Simard had broken away for an easy shot at the net, with San Diego's Brent Sapergia throwing his stick to stop Simard.

The Eagles had taken a 2-0 lead in the opening period on goals by Ken Sabourin and C.J. Young - the latter scoring on a power play.

The Gulls had goals in the second and third periods by Derek Mayer and Dennis Holland.

The Eagles Eagles continue their six-game trip with games Thursday and Saturday in Phoenix. Salt Lake is 2-1-1 so far in its current road trip and 8-9-2 overall.
