An unusual Eagle Scout court of honor was held Friday evening for seven recipients in a handicapped Scout troop.
Troop 717, which is sponsored by the Provo Timpanogos Chapter of the International Lions Club, is made up of boys and men with mental and physical handicaps.Recipients were included Gordon Budge, Provo; William Carrillo, Provo; Hal Henderson, Provo; Lewis Jenson, Provo; Klaren Jenson, Provo; Danny Searle, Payson; and Gary Westover, Santaquin.
Larry and Teri Martin are Scoutmaster and assistant Scoutmaster.
Scouts in the two special categories advance in rank with requirements suited to their handicaps.
The Provo Lions Club has sponsored the troop for 21 years. The first Eagle in the United States awarded to a handicapped Scout, Harold Nelson, was in this troop.
"It is unusual when any troop awards this many Eagles at a court of honor," Rees Falkner, Scout executive, said. "It is a national achievement when a troop awards seven Eagles to handicapped Scouts."
