Carrie White, listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest living person, thoroughly enjoyed her six-tiered cake and even received a call from Ronald Reagan on her 116th birthday.

But White, who was born when Ulysses S. Grant was president and Custer's last stand was two years away, didn't seem to notice the greetings sent by Governor-elect Lawton Chiles, or the tape-delayed phone call from Reagan.Reportedly, she had something else on her mind.

White had been unhappy all day Sunday, according to a nurse's aide, because she had to wait until the party for a piece of the cake. But once the cake was cut, she livened up.

"She's wide awake now," said Paul Allen, owner and administrator of Putnam Memorial Nursing Home.

While hundreds of well-wishers gathered around White, she continued eating her cake. The cake was covered in pink roses, matching White's pink dress and pink corsage.

Reagan called about an hour before festivities began on the lawn of the nursing home. The call was taped and played later for White and her guests.
