One police officer was killed and three wounded in a two-hour shootout between city and federal police sparked by a dispute over whether federal officers could take guns into a saloon, a news agency reported.

Army troops intervened and ended the battle early Saturday in Culiacan, about 600 miles northwest of Mexico City, the government-owned Notimex news agency said Sunday.Manuela Ruiz Arce of the local prosecutor's office said six federal judicial police officers tried to take their guns into a local bar and city police objected.
