The Playwrights Laboratory at Sundance will offer observerships during the 1991 lab program for two to four young writers selected on the basis of the quality of their scripts.

The annual Utah Young Playwrights' competition is open to Utah youths from 13 to 18 years of age. It is hoped that English and drama instructors will work with young writers in their classes toward the development of scripts.Guidelines:

- No longer than 50 pages.

- A single set.

- A cast of no more than five characters.

- A situation drawing closely on the writers' own lives, feelings and experiences.

The guidelines are recommended so that young playwrights will be aware of the form and structure of a PLAY and not confuse it with film or television writing.

Deadline: Postmarked no later than Feb. 15, 1991.
