A statewide competition is being held for a poster design to capture the "spirit of the state's archaeological and Native American heritage."

The posters will be a principal focus of the annual Utah Archaeology Week, which is sponsored by various state and federal agencies and local organizations.Prizes are offered in three categories: an open category to include professionals ($250), secondary school students ($100) and elementary school students ($100).

Entries must be received no later than Dec. 1 at any office of the Utah Statewide Archaeological Society. Posters must be no larger than 16 inches wide and 24 inches long.

Any subject, except dinosaurs, related to historic and prehistoric Native American peoples, their lifestyles and environment is appropriate.
