Construction cranes hover over the new Jazz arena, rising on the block bordered by South Temple, 100 South, 300 West and 400 West, in a shot caught by a fisheye lens. Sahara Construction of Bountiful and Ohbayashi Construction of Japan plan to complete structural concrete work on the 20,400-seat arena by February. Once the concrete work is finished, crews will begin the three-month task of building the arena's roof. The entire project, begun because the Utah Jazz basketball team has outgrown Acord Arena in the Salt Palace, should be completed in about a year. The $66 million arena will hold events 210-220 nights per year.
