The Salt Lake Golden Eagles scored two goals in the third period to down the Fort Wayne Komets 5-3 Friday night.
The Eagles' Marc Bureau knocked in Salt Lake's first goal and its last goal en route to the decision. The first, a quick wrist shot from the slot off a pass from Darryl Olsen, and the second, a shorthanded empty net score.Salt Lake goalie Steve Guenette's play prompted coach Bobby Francis to comment:"He was outstanding, especially in the third period when he was faced with their man advantage situation. When we needed them, he came up with the big, big saves to allow us to win the game."
Fort Wayne's Bob Lakso scored the first goal of the game, on a short pass in front of the net from Bruce Boudreau. The Eagles countered with three goals in the first period to go up 3-1. Salt Lake never trailed after the scoring spurt.
Kevin Grant, Martin Simard and Andrew McKim also had goals for the Eagles.
The Eagles face Indianapolis tonight on the road.
"We're getting right back to it in Indianapolis, and I'm very encouraged. We're getting better each time out. We're realizing what it takes to win, and we're expecting to win going into each game. That's a big step forward for us," said Coach Francis.
