Railroad buffs please take note. Salt Lake City based Railflite has arranged for two trips aboard vintage private cars.
The first trip takes you aboard Amtrak's California Zephyr from Salt Lake City to Grand Junction, Colo. You'll disembark at Grand Junction where you'll stay at the Grand Junction Hilton. The next day you'll board two luxurious private rail cars, the Utah and the Kansas, and head back to Salt Lake City. These vintage cars have been fully restored. There are glass murals, intricate woodwork, polished grass, uniformed stewards. You'll eat dinner on board. You'll also be able to stand out on the open platform for a fresh-air view of the spectacular scenery.The route to Grand Junction passes over Soldier's Summit through Price Canyon, crosses the Green River and continues alongside the Colorado through Ruby Canyon. The price is $199 per person. The dates are August 19-20.
YOU CAN TRAVERSE THE SPECTACULAR Colorado Rockies on a trip that leaves Salt Lake City Aug. 21, arriving in Denver Aug. 22. You'll travel aboard the private cars the Utah and the Kansas through some of the West's most spectacular scenery. You'll stay one night at the Oxford Alexis Hotel in Denver, built in 1893. The hotel has been restored and each room is furnished with antiques. You'll have a day to explore Denver and then your chauffeur will take you to the airport for your flight back to Salt Lake City. The cost of this trip is $299 per person.
