A West Valley man was killed and three others injured in a three-car accident Thursday afternoon.

Killed in the accident was:Thavorith In, 36, West Valley City

In was pronounced dead at LDS hospital at 4:10 p.m. He died of multiple trauma, a nursing supervisor said.

West Valley City police officer Craig Petersen said In was a passenger in a Honda driven by Bunleouth Chheng, 19, Murray. The Honda was traveling south on 3200 West when it collided with a westbound pickup truck at the intersection at 4270 S. The truck was driven by Richard W. Bangerter, 34, Sandy.

After the impact, Chheng apparently lost control of the car and slid into the northbound lane where it was struck again by a northbound full-size truck driven by Mel Ingersoll, 26, Salt Lake City.

The accident trapped both In, Chheng and In's 11-year-old son, Chamnap, inside the Honda. Fire crews had to use hydraulic tools known as The Jaws of Life to cut and tear the doors and roof to release the victims, Petersen said.

Bangerter was uninjured in the 2 p.m. accident.

Chheng was taken to Pioneer Valley Hospital where he was treated and released for minor injuries. Chamnap In, who was riding in the back seat, was listed in stable condition at Pioneer Valley Hospital, a nursing supervisor said. The boy received minor head and torso injuries.

A passenger in Ingersoll's truck, Steve Jensen, 23, West Valley City, also received minor injuries in the accident.
