Movie theater prices are on the rise in New York and Los Angeles - up to as much as $7.50 now. But in Salt Lake City they are dropping, at least for the Cineplex Odeon chain.

Prices at all local Cineplex Odeon theaters as of Friday will be reduced from $5.50 to $4.75 for general admission and from $3.50 to $3 for children, senior citizens and bargain matinees (daily before 6 p.m.). Student and youth tickets are being discontinued. In addition, all restrictions for discount tickets to Cineplex Odeon theaters are being lifted, allowing moviegoers to use them for any and all shows.

The Cineplex Odeon Theaters in the Salt Lake Valley include the Crossroads Cinemas downtown in the Crossroads Mall, the Holladay Center Cinemas north of the Cottonwood Mall, the Midvalley Cinemas in the Family Center on Redwood Road, the South Towne Center Cinemas in the South Towne Mall in Sandy, the Trolley North Theaters in North Salt Lake and the Trolley Corners and Trolley Square Theaters near 700 East and 500 South. The Family Center Trolley Theaters at the 7200 South Family Center will remain a "dollar house," where all seats are $1.
