The Utah affiliate of the American Heart Association has announced the awarding of more than $500,000 in research money to 20 Utah scientists for 1990-1991.

All the research approved for funding is related to the treatment or prevention of cardiovascular disease.Ten scientists who will receive a total of $124,814 from the AHA Utah affiliate and the institutions where the research will be conducted are Robert D. Christensen, Mark R. Elstad, R. Douglas Ensley, Ronald D. Jenkins, Mark T. Keating, Matthew A. Movsesian and Stephen M. Prescott, all University of Utah; John F. Carlquist and G. Michael Vincent, both LDS Hospital and U. of U.; and J. Michael Dean, Primary Children's Medical Center and the U.

Ten scientists whose research projects will be funded by $385,350 from the AHA National Center Research Administration and the institutions where their research will be conducted are Donald K. Blumenthal II, Mary C. Beckerle, Stephen M. Prescott, John H. Weis (two projects), Edward M. Gilbert and Fred L. Anderson, all U. of U.; and Susan L. Woodley, Roger A. Freedman, William Banner Jr. and Kelley P. Anderson, all U. Medical Center.
