Cottonwood High basketball player Justin Weidauer, considered one of the top prospects in the state's crop of senior players, signed a national letter-of-intent Wednesday to play collegiately at Brigham Young University.
Weidauer, a 6-foot-7, 205-pounder, averaged 21 points, 12 rebounds, 3 blocked shots and 3 assists a game as a junior last year, aiding the Colts to their second straight third-place finish in the state's 4A state basketball tournament. He earned first-team all-state recognition by the Deseret News and was selected for a second consecutive year as a member of the all-star Utah Select Team to play - and defeat - the touring Soviet Union Junior National Team last May.
"He's been one of the top high school players for three years now," said BYU Head Coach Roger Reid. "He has the ability to help us on the wing and with the fast break, and he's an excellent scorer."
Listed among the top 100 college prospects in BC and Metro scouting reports, Weidauer was the leading scorer in the Phoenix BCI tournament this summer. He also was selected among the top 15 players at the Santa Barbara ALl-Star Camp and earned all-star honors at the Long Beach Slam-and-Jam camp.
