SkyWest Inc. reported net income of $1.39 million for the quarter ended Sept. 30, compared to $1.77 million for the same quarter last year.

Operating income was $2.33 million for the quarter, up slightly from $2.26 million the previous year. The prior year quarter net income included an after tax gain of approximately $464,000 on the sale of aircraft.Jet fuel prices increased from 77 cents per gallon on Aug. 1 to approximately $1.35 by quarter's end, increasing total operating expenses approximately 4 percent, the company said.

A spokesman said the company was able to recover some of the additional fuel expenses through fare increases, and although traffic levels have not been impacted, "continued fuel cost and fare increases could have an adverse effect on traffic."
