John D. Whetten, president, chief executive officer and director of Challenge Dairy Products Inc., will speak at Brigham Young University Thursday, Nov. 15.

"Traits of a Successful Leader in the 1990s" is the title of his lecture, scheduled for 2 and 4 p.m. in Room 710 of the Tanner Building as part of the Marriott School of Management's Executive Lecture Series.The Provo native started his career with the Clorox Co. in the marketing department in 1967. He managed the team that developed Clorox 2, a dry bleach.

He joined Challenge Dairy Products Inc. in Dublin, Calif., in 1979 as director of marketing. He became vice president of marketing in 1980 and senior vice president in 1981. In April of 1982, he was elected president and CEO.

Challenge is the largest producer of brand-name butter in the Western United States.
