More than 35 top international artists, from New Kids on the Block and Milli Vanilli to Guns 'N' Roses and Robert Plant, are part of the lineup for "Rock in Rio II," a 10-day rock festival to be held in Rio de Janeiro in January. A million people are expected at the event in Marcana Stadium, the world's largest soccer venue.

Promoter Robert Medina plans to add a host of Brazilian acts to the music mix. A "Battle of the Bands" contest will be held that will also put the winner, a new Brazilian band, on the stage.Among the other international acts scheduled for the festival are Joe Cocker, Megadeth, Jody Watley, George Michael, INXS, Billy Idol, David Lee Roth, Donna Summer, Lisa Stansfield, Ziggy Marley, Deee-Lite, Run DMC, Yazz, a-ha, Colin Hay and Information Society.

1985's "Rock in Rio" featured such acts as Queen, Scorpions, Iron Maiden and AC/DC.
