The board of governors of the Salt Lake Area Chamber of Commerce has some serious work to do in educating legislators in Salt Lake County about issues affecting business, according to David Bird, chairman of the chamber's State Legislative Action Committee.

In analyzing the impact on business of the recent elections, Bird said one of the most important issues facing the upcoming Legislature will be funding for renovation of the Salt Palace so Salt Lake City can attract large conventions, Bird said.Last year, the Legislature failed to appropriate $30 million for the renovation project that would have been matched by $15 million each from Salt Lake City and Salt Lake County. Bird said new legislators must be educated about the positive impact the Salt Palace renovation will have on the state's economy.

In order to start the education process, the board of governors will host Salt Lake County legislators during a 7:30 a.m. meeting Dec. 11 in the Marriott Hotel.
