Utah State's basketball team returns five of its top six scorers from last year, but Coach Kohn Smith announced this week he will probably start two freshmen from Utah schools at inside positions and Iowa State transfer Jay Goodman at guard on the 1990 team that begins play with exhibition games Thursday and Monday nights in the Spectrum.

The Aggies meet Fellowship of Christian Athletes Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and Belgium-Gent Monday at 7:30 p.m. before (probably) starting the regular season Nov. 24 at BYU (depending upon the Cougars' play in the preseason National Invitation Tournament).Smith expects to start two first-year players - 6-foot-7 Eric Franson from American Fork and 6-6 Bryon Ruffner from Provo and Timpview - along with veterans Randy Funk at inside and Kendall Youngblood at guard, along with Goodman.
