Winners of this year's Composers Guild Annual Composition Contest will be announced at a seminar Friday, Nov. 16, at Guitar City, 470 N. 1100 West in Centerville. Admission is free and the public is invited.
Presented by Tom Carruth of Guitar City, the seminar is titled "The Four-Track Recorder: Composer's Tool of the Future" and will begin at 7 p.m. As part of earning his master's degree at Weber State College, Carruth synthesized the entire orchestral accompaniment for his live piano performance.This year's contest drew entries from 18 states and five foreign countries. In addition to cash awards, winning compositions are eligible to be performed at the guild's annual "Composers' Spectacular" in January.
The guild is also issuing a call for holiday music to be considered for inclusion on its "New Sounds for Christmas" program, to be presented Dec. 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the Salt Lake 10th Ward. For information call 451-2275.
