The college rating game continues, but no Utah schools emerged at the top of the heap in this week's issue of U.S. News and World Report.
Brigham Young University, Utah State University and the University of Utah were lumped into the "Best of the Rest" article in the Oct. 15 edition of U.S. News & World Report, now on the newsstands.Recently, BYU scored a superior rating as one of Money magazine's best college buys for private universities, while the U. laid claim to the title of "best all-around school between the University of Chicago and the University of California, Berkely" in Barron's.
In the U.S. News & World Report article, no Utah school graced the magazine's Top 25 national universities list, which includes a predictable, Ivy-League-flavored Top 10.
The magazine, which looked at 1,374 four-year colleges and universities, ranked the schools according to a number of factors such as reputation, selectivity, faculty resources, financial resources and student satisfaction.
For 295 schools that did not make the Top 25, the magazine placed them, according to overall scores, within four groups. The schools, however, are listed alphabetically and are not ranked within the groups.
The U. is listed in the second group. Among the 51 schools in this group are Boston College, University of Colorado at Boulder, University of California at Riverside, Santa Barbara and Santa Cruz, University of Illinois at Chicago, University of Massuchusetts at Amherst, University of Missouri at Columbia and Rolla and Washington State University.
BYU and USU are in the third group. Among other schools in this group are American University, Arizona State University, Loyola University of Chicago, University of Idaho, Texas Christian University, University of New Mexico, University of Oregon, University of Wyoming and Virginia Commonwealth University.
