The United States beat Hungary 16-9 and then tied host West Germany 11-11 Saturday to remain deadlocked for the lead with one round to go in an eight-nation water polo tournament.

"Drawing against the host team is like winning," U.S. team manager Bill Barnett said after the second game.The Americans led 3-2 after the first quarter, but conceded three goals in the second period without scoring. They rallied in the third quarter, winning that one 5-3. Both teams scored three goals each in the last period, leaving the final score at 11-11.

The United States and West Germans are the only unbeaten teams going into the final round today. They have 5-1 won-lost records for 11 points.
