Berniece Smith Mortensen Pettit, 76, passed away, November 11, 1990, in Salt Lake City, from the effects of cancer.

Born August 20, 1914, in Granger, Utah, to Joseph and Eusebia Ann Smith. Married Leo N. Mortensen, April 19, 1934; marriage later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. He preceded her in death. Married C. David Pettit, October 28, 1968.Berniece was retired United Airlines Flight Kitchen employee where she worked from 1953-1977. She was an active member of the LDS Church and was at the time of her illness serving a mission with her husband in the Family History Library located at the Los Angeles Temple complex. She served in many capacities in the Church. Berniece had many loyal friends. She was a charter member of the FREE-LO-LO Club and belonged to a number of informal social groups.

Survived by her husband, David, and her children, Richard, Long Beach, Calif; Mrs. Richard G. (JoAnn) Peterson, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Dennis (Sandra) Neeley, Manti; and Bruce and wife Diane, Salt Lake City; sister, Mary Mecham and brother, Severn Smith, both of Salt Lake City; she had 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren, all of whom loved and will miss her. Preceded in death by her brothers, Wain, Paul, Howard and Robert.

Viewing Tuesday, November 13th at the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park Mortuary, 3401 So. Highland Drive, from 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 14th at noon, Valley View 6th Ward Chapel, 2245 East 3900 So., where friends may call from 10:45-11:45 a.m. prior to the service.
