Ariel Cardon Merrill, age 89, formerly of Orem and also Bountiful, died November 11, 1990 in the American Fork hospital of causes incident to age.

He was born March 18, 1901 in Richmond, Cache County, Utah, son of William and Lucy Cardon Merrill. Married Edith Horsley January 28, 1925 in the Logan LDS Temple; she died January 13, 1982. Married Carrie Ricks December 18, 1982 in the Las Angeles Temple. He formerly resided in Salt Lake City, Logan, and Pebble Beach, California, where he had been in the food and dairy business for many years. He was a bishop, stake president, and Patriarch in the church, and president of the Scout Council.Survived by his wife, Sandy; son and daughters, Ariel Roger Merrill, Lehi; Joan Hansen, Pebble Beach, Calif.; Jill Cavanaugh, Roseville, Calif.; Julie Ripley, Chatanooga, Tenn.; 17 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren; sister, Clarinda Green, Burley, Idaho.

Funeral Wednesday, November 14, 1990, at 11 a.m., in the Lehi, Utah North Stake Center, 851 North 1200 East, where friends may call Wednesday, 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment and graveside services will be held in the Richmond, Utah Cemetery at 3:30 p.m. Wing Mortuary of Lehi Directing.
