A historic badge was stolen from the museum at Timpanogos Cave National Monument sometime during October, Superintendent Michael O. Hill reported.
The missing badge is described as being approximately 2 inches tall by 1 1/2 inches wide in the shape of a federal shield. The words "Timpanogos Cave Committee" are embossed above a figure of a stalactite cave formation. The missing badge was originally designed for the Timpanogos Cave Committee, an organization chartered by the National Forest Service to conduct tours of the cave and develop the site in the early 1920s. After the National Park Service took over the site, the cave committee was continued until after World War II.
The theft took place while the museum was open to the public. Superintendent Hill said, "This badge was the only one of its kind the monument had."
