He may not be happy about it, but a Provo man charged with trying to kill his wife last month has been ordered to undergo a mental examination to determine his competency to stand trial.
"I can go along with the exam, but . . . it's totally against my will," Faitau Owen Tipa, 34 N. Fourth East, told 4th District Judge Cullen Y. Christensen during proceedings Friday. "I feel fine."Christensen ordered Tipa to return to court Sept. 2 for a competency report. The examination, to be held in the Utah County Jail rather than the Utah State Hospital, was requested by Deputy County Attorney Kent Barry.
Tipa, 33, is charged with attempted murder, a second-degree felony, in the July 15 shooting of Edna Tipa. She was treated for a gunshot wound to the chest.
