Western Coil Processing, the latest addition to economic development in Utah County, is under construction north of Geneva Steel's Pipe Mill.

The corporation, a subsidiary of Schaeffer Industries, is scheduled to begin production in January 1989. The facility will do descaling and slitting for coils manufactured by Geneva Steel. The plant is being built on a 10-acre site in two phases. The first phase consists of a 64,000-square-foot building to house the processing line and a bay for shipping, receiving and storage.

The plant expects to hire 40 local people in October and will increase that number to 60 sometime next year.

Schaeffer Industries has two divisions headquartered in Montebello, Calif. - Western Flat Rolled Steel and American Rollforming and Manufacturing.

George Schaeffer, president and owner of the parent company, said they came to Utah County to be part of Geneva Steel's ongoing program to expand steel markets.
