Alta Virginia Gerstner Van Boerum, 82, died Thursday, November 8, 1990 in a South Ogden nursing home of causes incident to age.
Born June 24, 1908 in Salt Lake City, daughter of John Joseph and Zina May Brown Gerstner. She married John E. Van Boerum October 22, 1936 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple; he died April 22, 1984. She was reared and educated in Salt Lake City, attending LDS High School and LDS Business College. She moved to Ogden in 1936 where she lived for 49 years with the exception of 2 years in Weiser, Idaho. She has resided in Salt Lake City for the past five years. She was an active member of the LDS Church, where she served in the auxiliary organizations. She was a temple ordinance worker in the Ogden LDS Temple. She had worked at the Paris Co. in Salt Lake City prior to her marriage and worked for many years at the Bon Marche in Ogden. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She was devoted to her family and enjoyed family gatherings and knitting and bowling.Survived by three sons and one daughter, J. Howard Van Boerum, Salt Lake City; Ross E. Van Boerum, Huntington Beach, Calif.; Reed G. Van Boerum, Las Vegas, Nev.; Mrs. Ted L. (Judy) Parke, of Wilson Lane; 27 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Theresa B. Gerstner; and Mrs. J.P. (Kathryn) Meik, both Salt Lake City. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, seven sisters and one brother.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m., at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., where friends may call Sunday, from 6-8 p.m. and Monday, noon to 12:45 p.m. Interment, Lindquist's Washington Heights Memorial Park.
