Jean M. Fletcher, 81, passed away in her sleep early Wednesday, November 7, 1990, at her home of natural causes. She was born December 14, 1908, in Chester, Nebraska, a daughter of Robert and Anna Malowney.
After she attended schools in Chester, she graduated from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln with a B.A. in music. She taught several years in Nebraska before moving to Rock Springs, Wyoming to be supervisor of music in the school district there. She met and later married Alvin W. Fletcher on June 4, 1939 in Denver, Colorado; later solemnized in the Cardston, Alberta Temple. In August, 1946, they moved to Billings where Jean was active in music throughout the community and her church. She taught piano lessons in her home for over 35 years. She loved her children and grandchildren and cherished her many friends. Jean served in the LDS Swedish Mission from March 1963 to June 1966 with her husband who served as the mission president.She is survived by her husband, Alvin; a son, Robert of Thousand Oaks, Calif; a daughter, Mrs. Michael (Nancy) Scharnowske of Billings; six grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. John (Margaret) Ball of Wilton, Conn. Preceded in death by her brother Arthur Malowney of Denver, Colo.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 10th, at the Billings LDS 5th Ward Chapel, 2929 Belvedere Dr., where friends may call for one hour prior to the services. Funeral Directors: Smith Downtown Chapel, Billings.
