Automobile homicide charges have been filed against a California man who was the driver of a vehicle in which the passenger was fatally injured after the car left a mountain road on Oct. 18 in Sevier County.
Frank Eugene Stewart, 44, Riverside, Calif., was charged in the death of Ruben Gonzoles, 34, Los Angeles. Another passenger, Juan Gonzoles, a brother of the victim, was also injured.Stewart is scheduled to appear for arraignment Dec. 4 in 6th Circuit Court. He is recovering from injuries suffered in the accident.
Sheriff's Deputy Dee Johnson said the vehicle went out of control, careened down an 18-foot embankment and rolled several times. The accident occurred on the Willow Creek Road in the Fishlake National Forest east of Redmond.
The victim died at the scene. His brother walked seven miles to U.S. 89 where he flagged a motorist to get help.
Johnson said the accident appeared to have been alcohol-related.
