$1 million in merchandise and equipment was destroyed early Saturday when a fire raced through a hangar at Ogden's Hinckley Airport.

An investigation by the city fire marshal is still in progress, but it appears the fire might be related to welding work being done in the building Friday night, said Ogden Fire Battalion Chief Lee Rosenlund. He said the building was being used by the Levelor Blind Co., which has a manufacturing plant in a nearby industrial park.Fire crews responded to the blaze at 1:26 a.m. and found the building fully engulfed. Four engines, a ladder truck and a rescue squad were summoned.

Rosenlund said it took the 25 firefighters about one hour to control the blaze, which also caused structural damage to a smaller, attached building. A third building was undamaged.

Arson has not officially been ruled out.

Crews spent more than 10 hours at the site mopping up Saturday. Rosenlund said the effort was complicated by the building's collapse, which increased the hazard in reaching some of the hot spots.
