About 75 people chanted Bible verses and traded insults with fans of 2 Live Crew before a concert by the raunchy rap group, but the show went off without incident, featuring selections from "As Nasty As They Wanna Be."
"We want people to know they're selling obscenity at $21 a ticket here," said the Rev. Wiley Drake of the First Southern Baptist Church."Desire God, not the music!" Reuben Israel yelled at concertgoers as they filed into the Celebrity Theater on Friday night. "How can you watch this concert knowing people are going to hell?"
The 2,500-seat theater was 60 percent full. The rappers also failed to sell out the 1,100-seat Vertigo playhouse in Los Angeles earlier in the week.
Police reported no arrests inside or outside the Celebrity Theater.
