Gunmen on Saturday killed two policemen and two civilians who had been duck hunting on the shores of a lake, and the outlawed Irish Republican Army claimed responsibility.

Hugh Annesley, chief constable of the Royal Ulster Constabulary, said the slayings were "repulsive, futile and cowardly."The IRA said in a phone call to a radio station it had carried out the killings. They brought to 70 the number of people slain in sectarian attacks in Northern Ireland this year.
