The Food and Drug Administration is warning consumers against taking an illegally marketed and possibly dangerous drug used for strength training and body building.

The FDA says it had received reports of more than 30 people in California, Florida and Georgia becoming ill after taking GHB, or gamma hydroxybutyric acid.The drug is also called sodium oxybate and gamma hydroxybutyrate sodium.

The FDA says GHB can cause nausea and vomiting, severe respiratory problems, seizures and coma.

GHB is sold as powder or granules through mail order outlets, health food stores, gyms and fitness centers.
