A polka party for all ages will take place Friday, Nov. 16, from 7 p.m. to midnight. Families are invited to attend at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Hall, 279 S. 300 West.
Polkas, waltzes, schottisches and other old-time dances will be played by two bands, the Rock Springs Buttonbox Accordion Club and Salt Lake's popular Bavarians. There will be volunteers available to teach the steps of these dances to individuals or small groups. There will also be special children's and senior citizens' activities, and food and beverages for sale. The dance is sponsored as a fund raiser by the Western Folklife Center. "Neighborhoods, churches, ethnic groups and other organizations used to sponsor community dances regularly," said Hal Cannon, director of the center. "But now it is difficult to find a place where people can dance in a family atmosphere and do these dances they knew growing up."
Tickets are $6, $3 for children 12 and under, or $15 per family. For information, call 531-7704.
