Two Tooele Army Depot employees will share a $5,646 cash award for a suggestion that is expected to save the government about $490,000.
Kenneth L. Johnson and Mark L. Crump, employees of the depot's Turbine Engine Component Branch, Fuel Section, Items Division, developed a procedure for repairing fuel control units on 21/2-ton and five-ton trucks.Vehicle drivers were experiencing starting difficulties and engine surging due to bent tangs that control the fuel injection pump.
Johnson and Crump developed a procedure that consisted of removing the tangs, straightening them and cleaning the inside surfaces of the control units which house the tangs.
The cash award comes from the Army Ideas for Excellence Program. Johnson and Crump were also named second runners-up in the National Association of Suggestion Systems annual Suggester of the Year contest.
