Roger K. Meyer has been selected regional commodore for the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. Meyer, who works for the Union Pacific Railroad, is the first Utahn to serve in the job.

The Auxiliary, with 2,300 members in the northern district that includes Utah, Nevada and Northern California, is a volunteer organization. Members operate safety patrols and offer search and rescue assistance using private vessels and aircraft. The auxiliary also provides education classes in boating safety and conducts courtesy marine examinations for recreational vehicles.
