"Carnal Knowledge," the 1971 screenplay written by Jules Feiffer and directed by Mike Nichols, has been tried out as a play in Houston, Texas, and Pasadena, Calif. It will open Nov. 15 at off-Broadway's 99-seat Kaufman Theater, on West 42nd Street's Theater Row.
Judd Nelson will have Jack Nicholson's old role, with Jon Cryer in the Art Garfunkel part and Justine Bateman in Candice Bergen's role. The Ann-Margret and Rita Moreno parts haven't been cast.Certainly, a name show will sell 99 seats eight times a week with that cast. If the response is great enough, says producer Martin Kaufman, he'll move the production to a larger off-Broadway house or a small Broadway theater.
