Four veteran ZCMI employees will be honored this week for their talents and service to the community.

Gertrude Glauser, Dean Ence, May Watanabe and Dale Magleby will receive the first ZCMI Presidential Citation Award Friday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. in the downtown store's Tiffin Room. ZCMI plans to make presentation of the award an annual event. The award recognizes employees within the department store chain who have demonstrated "dedication, loyalty, productivity and commitment to the ZCMI principles of honesty, integrity and trust, plus noteworthy community service," said ZCMI President Richard Madsen.

He said the Presidential Citation award grew out of the Salute to Excellence program initiated by ZCMI five years ago.

Glauser began her career at ZCMI in 1941. She is an artist who holds a master's degree from the University of Utah. She lectures, teaches and conducts demonstrations on the artistic use of flowers - a discipline she studied in Japan.

She is also a volunteer at LDS Hospital, Neighborhood House for Children and the Montessori School.

Ence joined ZCMI in 1954, retired in 1973 but returned in 1978 as a part-time working retiree. He was a corporate loan executive for United Way for five years. His two daughters both work for ZCMI.

Watanabe has worked at ZCMI for 41 of her 80 years. She has been a volunteer for the March of Dimes and teaches flower arranging. She has one son and three grandchildren.

Dale Magleby has been associated with ZCMI for 19 years and is currently assistant manager of the ZCMI Distribution Center. He is the father of eight children and active in scouting.
