Crescent View Middle School students have decided to become more discriminating in their television watching.

During November, the school will emphasize wise choices in program selection. During a week of testing that falls within that period, students, teachers and parents are being encouraged to forego television altogether.Deseret News television critic Scott Pierce initiated the project with a talk on current TV trends.

Students will be encouraged to recognize the great assets of television and to make informed choices about the programs they watch.

"We want to transform our families from `couch potatoes' into discriminating TV viewers," said school PTA spokeswoman JaNel Moore.
