Merril Alfred Shaw, age 69, died Friday afternoon, November 2, 1990 at Dixie Medical Center, in St. George.
Born August 30, 1921 in Calgary Alberta, Canada, to Earl H. and Emma Heckner Shaw. Married Dorothy Allred, July 17, 1943 in Alliance, Nebraska. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, November 5, 1951. Reared and educated in Seattle, Washington. He attended Long Beach College and the Utah State University, in Logan. Served in the Air Force, during World War II. Saw action with the 9th Air Force in Europe. Moved to Holladay, Utah in 1972, and had been living the winter months in St. George for the past 4 years. Employed as a Superintendent at Northwest Electrical in Seattle. Head of the Electronics and Industrial Electrical Department at Salt Lake Community College. Active member of the LDS Church. Active temple worker. Served as a high councilman and Bishop. At the time of his death was a Branch President of the St. George 27th Winter Branch.Survived by wife, Dotty, St. George; daughter, Mrs. Gerrit (Gloria Dee) Dirtmaat, Willow Glen, Calif.; son, Robert Merril Shaw, Salt Lake City; six grandchildren, brother, Harold Shaw, three sisters, Mrs. Grace Weber, Mrs. Frances Sebring, Ms. Myrtle Shaw, all Seattle, Washington.
Funeral services Monday, November 5, 1990 at 2 p.m. in the St. George 9th Ward Chapel, 550 East 700 South. Friends may call at Metcalf Mortuary, Sunday evening from 7-8 p.m. and at the ward chapel on Monday 12:30-1:30. Interment, St, George City Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by Lester Keate Post #90 of the American Legion.
