Police are still hoping to find the mother of a newborn baby abandoned last Thursday afternoon at the doorstep of a home in Ogden.

The child, who doctors estimated to have been between 12 and 24 hours old when discovered, was wrapped in towels in a cardboard box outside the home of Melba Bingham, 1515 Maule Drive."We haven't found the mother yet, but we're still looking," said Ogden police Lt. Clark Combe. "We're concerned about her welfare. We want to make sure she was the one that left the child and that no harm has come to her."

Combe said authorities are concerned about the mother's welfare because "there is a possibility that the mother has been harmed and that a third party left the child."

"It's a remote possibility that we have to consider," Combe said.

Combe said the child was discovered at 1 p.m. by Bingham, who found no note in the box.

Combe said the baby, a white female who weighs 8 pounds 4 ounces, was in good condition in McKay-Dee Hospital.
