Vietnam has taken action against hundreds of corrupt officials in a major anti-corruption drive, including the firing of a Cabinet minister, official media said.

Investigations are continuing into Forestry Ministry operations under former Deputy Minister Than Trung Hieu who was fired this week for corruption, according to a translation of an Oct. 28 Hanoi radio broadcast made available Saturday. The radio quoted a Forestry Ministry report saying that Hieu was guilty of arbitrary decisions that led to losses of state property. He also signed and issued bogus export and import permits, it said.
