Michael J. Stransky, president of Gillies Stransky Brems Smith, Architects, has been elected a director of the American Institute of Architects, the first Utahn to hold that position since Lloyd Snedeker served from 1961-64. He will serve for three years.
Stransky is one of two AIA directors representing 2,500-member architects in the six-state region consisting of Utah, Colorado, Nevada, Wyoming, Arizona and New Mexico. There are 18 regions in the national organization.He has been president of the Salt Lake Chapter and the Utah Society of AIA and serves as chairman of the Western Mountain Region's Task Force on Disaster Preparedness. Stransky also has been chairman of the Salt Lake Historical Landmark Committee and vice chairman of the Rural/Urban Design Assistance Team Implementation Committee.
