A Wyoming man was in serious condition early Friday in University Hospital for treatment of injuries suffered when he plunged in a 7-foot-deep construction hole on his motorcycle.
The victim, John Love, 40, was westbound on 4100 South at the intersection of 3960 West about 7 p.m. Thursday when he apparently crashed through barricades surrounding the hole, said West Valley police traffic investigator Mark Schaerrer.Love suffered serious face, neck and head injuries, Schaerrer said. The motorcycle fell on top of the victim, Schaerrer said. It took about a dozen officers about 15 minutes to pull him out.
The hole, which measured about 12 feet by 6 feet, is located in a turn lane on 4100 South. Construction workers had closed the area to replace sewer pipes, Schaerrer said.
He was taken by ambulance to Pioneer Valley Hospital and later transported by helicopter to University Hospital. Police said the victim wasn't wearing a helmet.
