A baby only a few hours old was abandoned Thursday afternoon at the doorstep of a home located in a well-to-do area in Ogden, police said.

The child, who doctors estimated was between 12 and 24 hours old, was found wrapped in towels in a cardboard box outside a home at 1515 Maule Drive.Ogden police Lt. Clark Combe said the child was discovered at 1 p.m. by the homeowners, who immediately called police.

No note was attached, Combe said.

Combe said the baby is a white female, weighs 8 pounds, 4 ounces and is in good condition.

The child was taken to McKay-Dee Hospital for observation. She is in custody of Weber County Division of Family Services.
