The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has issued a statement urging all eligible voters to participate in next week's election and reaffirming the political neutrality of the church:

"As citizens in the United States approach the conclusion of political campaigns for national, state and local offices, we urge all citizens to go to the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 6, and exercise their right to vote. All eligible voters should study the issues and the candidates carefully and prayerfully and vote for those they believe will most nearly carry out their views of government and its role."We emphasize again our long-standing policy of strict political neutrality. The Church does not favor one political party over another; the Church has no candidates for political office; and we do not undertake to tell people how they should vote.

"It is our hope that all voters will be informed and become involved in the political process . . . "
