McKay-Dee Hospital has been flooded with calls from people wanting to adopt a baby girl found abandoned Thursday afternoon on the front porch of an Ogden east bench home.
The infant was listed Friday in good condition at the medical facility.Jim Alvey, hospital director of public relations, said the baby will remain in the hospital for observation and then be turned over to the Division of Family Services. The infant, named Jane Doe, will then be placed in a temporary foster home where she will remain until her parents are found or she is adopted, he said.
"She is really cute," said Alvey. "She won't have any problems finding a home."
According to a police report, 75-year-old Melba Bingham found the baby wrapped in a white towel in a cardboard box on her front porch about 1 p.m. Thursday.
The baby had no clothes or diaper on, police said, and she was laying on a blue foamrubber eggcrate pad.
The girl was taken to the hospital, where doctors determined she was less than 24 hours old. The female caucasian weighed seven pounds 10 ounces and has thick dark brown hair.
Alvey said the baby was born outside a hospital because she hadn't been cleaned up since birth.
Captain Marlin Balls said police are trying to locate the baby's parents.
"We have to make an effort to find the mother and reunite the two, but obviously, she (the mother) doesn't want the baby."
